I just found out that some of my work will be featured in a new book called “The Contemporary Pin-up Illustration” by Schiffer Publishing. It will be released sometime in the second half of 2012 and i’m super excited” I guess I know what i’ll be buying for Christmas presents this year…

Speaking of Christmas, due to a lot of requests, I am shooting to have enough new work so I can finally release a pin-up calendar for 2013, so I have a lot of work to do. Seems like a decent goal with a good enough time frame though.

WOW! I’ve been super busy and it’s been a while since I’ve had time to do any pinups, so here’s a little something I cranked out today on my day off. Simple & Classic, featuring my fav model Suzanne from PDesign.

I was given a few new models to try out so those are next on my list. Really beautiful stuff so I hope you’ll like it. I’ve also been approached for a couple commissioned pieces, which I am considering, so stay tuned.

My sister requested I do a mermaid, so I popped this one out as a surprise birthday present. Happy Birthday Emma!

She has a thing for Ariel and Disney characters, so I tried to go with a little bit of a little mermaid vibe. If she were real, she might look something like this?

This is Suzanne from PDesign with the LostRealms mermaid tail from Daz. I had a really hard time posing it all, so I picked up the CG Mermaid Poses by ChristineG which are really nice.

I could really get in to doing more of these fantasy characters. Somehow pinups feel like they need to be very precise and with fantasy themes, I feel like I can get more messy, if that makes sense, somehow less contrived. Maybe I need to go pick up some swords and demon wing models or something… hmm…

I had this laying around for about a month as just a basic test render, which i originally wasn’t going to use, but I decided to spiff it up a little and finish it anyway. Another one using PDesign’s PD Suzanne Model and Marisandra Hair by AprilYSH. I’m pretty sure I also used the Surreal Marisandra hair textures by surreality on Renderosity.

I’ve been getting into this vintage noir vibe lately, so i’m going to try to shoot for some darker, art decco stuff.

I also have been meeting some really awesome artists this past week. One of them being Orlando Arocena, who does this amazing vector art. I’m really inspired by his stuff.

This is probably my last pin-up art of the year for 2011, so I wanted to do something special. Since the year of the dragon is coming up and i’m in kind of an Asian vibe, I couldn’t resist trying out the new Kumi model from PDesign. Amazing!

I’ve been spending a lot of time studying how Olivia De Berardinis does some of her pieces and so this pose was sort of a tip of the hat to her amazing work. This was rendered nude with just shoes and basic hair. The rest was post work and i’m really happy with how it came out. Here’s the before and after, in case you’re interested. I like looking at these some times just to see how other artists do their work.

I splurged on the Xmas sale on Renderosity and picked up a bunch of brushes, including these Wrinkle Brushes from mystikel

Happy New Year Everyone!

A little something i’m working on. The render is taking forever on this new PD Suzanne model, so I think I might need to tweak some things. 2 days for a render is way to long to let my computer burn.

I’m leaning towards going much more minimalist on the acessories in favor of just nude renders, maybe even with no hair. I think just getting the basic pose and expression rendered, then painting the rest in Photoshop is the way to go. I got inspired by another Poser artist named Kassidi Keys that I found on deviantArt, who follows the same type of process. I need to learn how to paint hair, because i’m just not satisfied with the models out there. Too many subtleties that I’m not finding.

The only problem with these hi detail models is that doing nude renders seems to take much longer than clothed. I’m even starting to consider the thought of getting a second workstation (dare I say a cheap PC with a crapload of ram) just for renders. Hmm… i’m such a mac guy, I shudder at the thought.

All these holiday sales on Renderosity are making it mighty tempting to pick up a few things. Must… stay.. in… control.

On another note, I was at the drug store today so I decided to make some print outs of my stuff just for kicks. I had yet to do that yet. Something about seeing your work in physical form is kind of cool.

I thought I would try out my snazzy new copy of Poser Pro 2012 to kick off this year’s Christmas pinup. I also want to thank Lunchlady SO MUCH for the awesome Pose Me Perfect IV Retro Pinup pose set, so I dedicated this one to her. I also found this awesome nutcracker on Daz3D and couldn’t resist using it. Total time to complete took about a week, mostly just messing with the colors, which I couldn’t seem to get just right.

I just added some new products to the Zazzle Store showing off some new pinups, including some cool new iPhone 3 & iPone 4 cases, as well as some more greeting cards and post cards. More stuff coming so stay tuned!

I also just received a notice that I was accepted into the Zazzle ARTSPROJEKT, which is a pretty cool honor to have my work showcased among all the other amazing artists on there. As soon as that is set up, I’ll update the links.

I guess when the motivation hits, you just gotta roll with it, so here are a couple more pinups I cranked out this week.

The first one is another one using the Ring Ring Pinup Pose set as well as this awesome new Alanis hair by Fabiana, The second one called Red Bomb was inspired by the hot latex outfit called Assassin Angel by 4blueyes at Daz3D. It kind of puts off a little bit of Kill Bill vibe.

I still have the hardest time getting clothing to fit. I have to tweak so much it seems to take up like 75% of my time. I need to work on that and see if I can pick up some tips. Any suggestions?

It’s been a while since I had a chance to do any pinups, so I thought I would test drive this awesome new Ring Ring Pinup Pose set from Ilona & outoftouch to get back into the groove.  Really nice poses and comes with some cool props.  I thought it turned out rather nicely, don’t you think?

There has been a lot of personal and career stuff going on these past few months so it’s been really hard to do any art, but I think I’ve exorcised the demons for the time being and will be getting back into the swing of things. I also have had a couple book offers that I am contemplating.  Maybe I’ll be in print soon?  I think that would be pretty cool and motivating.  More coming.

Update

WOW! I was flipping through my favorite pinup book Taschen’s 1000 Pin-Up Girls and I found this magazine cover with the exact same pose as the image above. I guess this must have been where Outoftouch got the inspiration for that pose set. Pretty spot on actually.

I LOVE that book by the way. If you’re looking for some good pinup motivation, I would definitely suggest picking it up.
